Is Profhilo a Skin Booster? Profhilo Explained Simply

Is Profhilo a Skin Booster? Profhilo Explained Simply

Is Profhilo a skin booster? Broadly, yes: it is an injectable hyaluronic acid treatment that improves skin quality rather than adding volume, which is what most people mean by a skin booster. It is usually described more precisely as a skin-remodelling treatment, because it spreads widely beneath the skin and also supports collagen and elastin, not just hydration.

Why the labels get confusing

Aesthetic treatments are often grouped by what they do, not by what they are made of, and the groups overlap. “Skin booster” is not a strict medical category. It is a useful umbrella term for injectables that aim to improve hydration, texture, elasticity and glow without changing the shape of your face.

Under that umbrella sit several different products and approaches. Some are hyaluronic acid based, some contain vitamins and amino acids, and some, like polynucleotides, are made from something else entirely. Profhilo sits under the umbrella too, but it behaves a little differently from many of its neighbours, which is why you will see it described both as a skin booster and as something distinct.

Why the label matters less than your goal

Whether you call Profhilo a skin booster or a skin-remodelling treatment, the more useful question is what you want to change. If you want plumper lips or more defined cheekbones, no skin-quality treatment will do that. If you want skin that feels more hydrated, looks less crepey and has a little more bounce, you are in the right family of treatments, and the choice between them comes down to your skin, the area and how broad an effect you need.

What Profhilo actually is

Profhilo is an injectable made from highly purified, high-concentration hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid occurs naturally in the skin and helps it hold on to water. As natural levels fall with age, sun exposure and lifestyle factors, skin can look drier, rougher and less radiant.

After injection, Profhilo spreads beneath the skin across a wider area than a traditional filler. Two things then happen:

  • Hydration improves beneath the surface, so skin can feel softer and smoother.
  • Collagen and elastin production is encouraged, which over the following weeks can improve firmness, elasticity and the look of crepey skin.

That second effect is why it is called skin remodelling. It is not designed to fill a line or reshape a feature, and it does not change your facial features. You can read about treatment areas and suitability on our Profhilo Liverpool page.

Profhilo compared with its neighbours

Treatment Main ingredient Main aim Adds volume?
Profhilo High-concentration hyaluronic acid Hydration plus remodelling across a broad area No
Traditional skin boosters Usually hyaluronic acid Hydration and glow in targeted areas No
Polynucleotides Purified DNA fragments Supporting skin repair and regeneration No
Dermal filler Hyaluronic acid gel Restoring volume and contour Yes

Profhilo and traditional skin boosters

Both focus on hydration. The difference is mainly in how they are placed and how far they spread. Traditional skin boosters are placed more directly into targeted areas, while Profhilo spreads beneath the skin for a broader effect. Our skin booster treatments in Liverpool are often chosen for dehydration, dullness and fine lines, and our guide to Profhilo vs skin boosters goes deeper into choosing between them.

Is Profhilo a polynucleotide?

No. This is a common search, and an understandable mix-up because both are injectable skin-quality treatments. Polynucleotides are highly purified DNA fragments chosen when supporting tissue repair and regeneration is the priority, often around the delicate under-eye area. Profhilo is hyaluronic acid. Some people benefit from one, others from a combination. See polynucleotides vs Profhilo for a side-by-side look.

Is Profhilo a filler?

It is injected, and it is hyaluronic acid, so people often assume it is. But filler is a firmer gel placed to add volume and shape. Profhilo is designed to spread and improve skin quality, so it will not plump lips, lift cheeks or fill deep folds.

What having Profhilo is like

  • Course: most plans begin with two sessions spaced about four weeks apart, with your plan based on your skin.
  • Appointment: a small series of injections, usually completed in around 30 to 45 minutes.
  • Straight after: small raised bumps at injection points are normal and usually settle within a day.
  • Results: many people notice improved hydration and radiance within the first few weeks, with firmness continuing to develop afterwards.
  • Areas: the face, neck, décolletage and hands are the most common.
  • Cost: depends on the number of sessions and areas; you receive a clear quote at consultation.

Who Profhilo suits, and who should wait

Profhilo tends to suit adults whose main concern is skin quality: dehydration, early fine lines, crepey texture, reduced firmness or a tired look, without wanting to change their features. It is less suited to people whose main concern is lost volume or a specific deep line, where other treatments may be more appropriate.

Treatment may need to be postponed if you:

  • are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • have an active skin infection or inflammation in the treatment area
  • have certain medical conditions, which are reviewed at consultation

Common side effects include redness, tenderness, small bumps and occasional bruising at injection points. Contact the clinic if swelling, pain or redness gets worse instead of better over the following days, and seek urgent help for any sudden skin colour change, severe pain or signs of an allergic reaction.

Frequently asked questions

Is Profhilo the same as a skin booster?

It belongs in the same family because it improves skin quality without adding volume. It differs in that it spreads more widely and supports collagen and elastin, which is why it is called skin remodelling.

Is Profhilo a polynucleotide?

No. Profhilo is hyaluronic acid. Polynucleotides are purified DNA fragments used to support skin repair.

Will Profhilo change my face shape?

No. It is not designed to add volume or reshape features. The aim is healthier-looking, better hydrated, firmer skin.

How many Profhilo sessions will I need?

Most plans start with two sessions about four weeks apart. Maintenance may be suggested depending on your skin and goals.
